Why Choose an Evaporative Cooler?

Living in a desert climate means that dry, hot weather is a given for most of the year. While average temperatures in the short winter season can be quite chilly, the air conditioner is definitely the star of the show when it comes to your comfort. Now is a good time to start thinking about replacing your air conditioner, as we move into the cooler time of the year.

If you are in need of a new AC, we recommend that you explore your options before deciding to replace your system with a very similar model. There are various air conditioners out there that could benefit you more than the system type that you are used to. One option that is very popular in Mesa, AZ is the evaporative cooler

How It Works

Traditional air conditioning systems use the evaporation and condensing of refrigerant in order to remove heat from the air in your home. An evaporative cooler, on the other hand, cools the house via the evaporation of water. It is an incredibly simple system, and the simplicity of its operation allows for great energy efficiency.

A simple pump is used to move water from a reservoir to a pad in the system. The pad is saturated with water, and a fan moves air through that pad. The air coming into the system is got and dry, and it absorbs moisture via evaporation of the water soaking the cooling pad. In the process, the air cools down a lot, and is distributed throughout the house.

Benefits of Evaporative Cooling

We mentioned above that these systems are very energy efficient, as they are not running a refrigerant cycle that demands the use of a compressor. The fan required does not draw much energy. Great efficiency is not the only benefit, though.

An added bonus of evaporative cooling is that it helps to humidify the air in your home. Because our climate is so hot and dry, low humidity is a serious concern in the region. When properly sized, installed, and serviced, an evaporative cooler can hep you to live in great comfort with improved indoor air quality.
